In the years following 2000 more major discoveries have been made in the Jutland battlefield. This DVD shows for the first time the uncovering of HMS Indefatigable, HMS Nomad, HMS Defence, and SMS Frauenlob. Some stunning images from a further survey of HMS Invincible are also included. These represent some of the world’s largest war-graves. They are still unprotected. The Battle of Jutland was fought on May 31st 1916 and remains the greatest naval conflagration of all time. At its end 25 warships had been sunk and over 8,500 sailors had been killed. Three were British battle cruisers, blew-up and sank in seconds, causing Admiral Beatty to remark ‘There appears to be something wrong with our bloody ships today’. This film looks at the wrecks that have been discovered in the years following 2000’s groundbreaking expedition. It looks at the battle chronologically and explains how the ships sunk and what the wrecks can tell us about the battle and what happened subsequently. Innes McCartney is a vociferous campaigner for the protection of these magnificent shipwrecks.
